Missing Hiker Found Dead

On July 2, 2006, at about 9:30pm, Tillamook County Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue Team responded to the report of a missing hiker at Elk Mountain trail off Hwy 6 near milepost 28.

It was reported that 48 year-old Robert M. Rithie, of Washington County, had gone hiking at 8:00am and should have returned at 6:00pm.

At 6:26am on July 3, 2006, Rithie was found deceased. It appeared that he fell 150-200 feet down the bank from the trail.
