House Fire & Death Investigation
OCEANSIDE - On Thursday, March 16, 2006, at about 2:45 pm, a call was received of a house
fire at 5455 Birch Street in Oceanside. Fire Departments from Oceanside/Netarts Fire, as well
as Tillamook Fire Department responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, the fire agencies discovered the residence on fire, with smoke showing. The
fire was extinguished by the responding firefighters. Investigation by the Fire Departments
revealed the body of a female adult, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The death
appeared suspicious in nature and law enforcement was called to the scene to assist.
The victim has not yet been identified.
The Tillamook County Major Crimes Team responded to investigate the death. The
Tillamook County Major Crimes Team is comprised of the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office,
Tillamook City Police, Manzanita Department of Public Safety, Oregon State Police, and
the Tillamook County District Attorney's Office.
The investigation will continue on March 17, 2006, into the cause of the fire, as well as
the manner and cause of death of the victim. The investigation will be conducted by the
Oceanside/Netarts Fire Department, Tillamook Fire Department, Tillamook County Major Crimes Team,
Oregon State Fire Marshals Office, and the Oregon State Police Arson Unit.
